Designated Fund Overview

Establishing a designated fund with the Community Foundation of Dickinson County allows you to provide long-term support for the charitable organization you value most. For the nonprofit, the fund creates a permanent income stream, one they can use for annual distributions to support their mission or preserve for future needs.

Because your gift is given through the Community Foundation, the organization receives more than funding. They also benefit from investment management, planned giving expertise, and the ability to accept even the most complex gifts, including appreciated stock, real estate, or estate gifts.

A designated fund is right for you if:

  • You want to provide annual support for your favorite charity forever through an endowed fund.
  • You know the charities you would like to support, and you don’t plan on changing them.
  • You want the Foundation to distribute grants on your behalf to the designated organization(s).

Why you would choose a designated fund

  • We handle all administrative details, including managing specific qualifications that you may establish for grant disbursements.
  • You can use your Qualified Charitable Distribution (QDC) from an IRA to establish or add to a designated fund.
  • Your gift is invested, and the earnings are used to make grants each year. Your original gift, and its future growth, remain a permanent source of support for your chosen charity.

How it works

  1. You Choose – Identify the organization (s) that you wish to support.
  2. You Give – Make a gift to the community foundation to establish your fund.
  3. We Grow – We manage the investments, administration, and due diligence so your gift can grow.
  4. We Grant – Every year, we distribute grants to your chosen nonprofit(s). FOREVER if you endow it!
