The Community Foundation of Dickinson County has awarded a $50,000 grant to the City of Abilene to support the renovation of public restrooms at Eisenhower Park and Bicentennial Park. The grant was formally presented during the October 27 City Commission meeting, where Community Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Weese discussed the project’s importance to the community.
“We continue to take a proactive approach in responding to community needs across our county,” said Weese. “While not glamorous, projects like these address real needs and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. We’re proud to assist with these much-needed upgrades and to help ensure that Abilene’s public spaces remain welcoming to everyone.”
The existing restrooms at both parks are outdated and in need of modernization. Planned improvements include durable stainless-steel stalls and doors, modern fixtures, and ADA-compliant accessibility updates. These renovations will enhance the cleanliness, comfort, and usability of the restrooms during the park season, making both parks more inviting for families, youth activities, and community events.
The project continues the Foundation’s commitment to community facility improvements across Dickinson County, following restroom renovations in Herington and Solomon. Each investment reflects the Foundation’s mission to strengthen local communities and enhance the quality of life for residents. For Good. For Ever.®
The Community Foundation of Dickinson County connects donors to charitable causes that matter most to them, supporting projects that improve education, health, recreation, and community life across the county.
