Abilene, KS, September 30, 2026 –  Sometimes, making a difference doesn’t take a lot of time.

Recently, an anonymous donor called the Community Foundation of Dickinson County (CFDC) with a simple request: they had money to give and wanted to distribute it among the community.

In a phone call that lasted only a couple of minutes, the donor directed $9,000 to nine different charitable organizations: The Oasis, Abilene Food Bank, Neighbor 2 Neighbor, Hope Center, Community Meals, Kids in Crisis, Core Community, CARES Coalition, and the Eisenhower Rose Garden. The donor wished to remain anonymous, stating they just had a desire to help organizations doing good work throughout Dickinson County. This phone call is a wonderful reminder of what true generosity looks like.

This phone call also proved the perfect opportunity to share one of the important roles a community foundation plays. CFDC connects people who want to give with causes that matter. Donors often come to CFDC knowing they want to make a difference, but they may not know exactly where to start.
